Plot / Synopsis
This is a story of passion, adultery, incest and drugs from the awarded Portuguese director João Canijo. In Blood of my Blood, Marcia is a single mother of two, who works as a cook and shares her house with her sister Ivette. Claudia, Marcia's daughter, falls in love with a married man, many years her senior, and that love story leads to a disaster. Canijo's lens put us straight into these character's hearts while exposing a very harsh subject. The melodrama develops in the outskirts of Lisbon with a universal plot, something that Canijo mastered upon perfection. Within the lines of Blood of my Blood lies the hostility of the Oedipal relationships and the gap between classes. ~ iffpanama.org
In Padre Cruz, a working class neighborhood on the outskirts of Lisbon, tough matriarch Márcia has worked hard all her life to make sure her daughter Cláudia finishes nursing school and marries well. When Cláudia gets involved with her married professor and João Carlos gets in trouble with a brutal druglord, the two sisters charge fearlessly into battle, fighting for their family’s survival and a better future. ~ psfilmfest.org
Portugal's official submission to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 85th Academy Awards 2013.
Blood of My Blood is about an ultimate ruination of hopes. A single mother tries to do her best for her grown up daughter and son but both of them have their own secret lives that keep pushing them downhill. The film is a very murky and deep family drama.
